International Research Project
The formative effect of the course of physiotherapy
studies on the occupational attitudes of students
Aims of the Project
Studies in Physiotherapy are currently offered, both in Poland and other EU member states, by four different types of university-level institutions: medical universities/colleges, universities of physical education, non-public medical colleges, and university-level schools offering mainly non-medical studies.
All four types of school have been selected for participation in the project, which sets out to investigate the formative effect of the course of physiotherapy studies on the occupational attitudes of the students, in view of considerable differences between them with respect to teaching traditions, academic standards of the staff and approaches to physiotherapy.
Not all universities offering bachelor degree programmes in Physiotherapy make it possible for students to complete the full cycle of education, i.e. attend Master level studies, or move on to Ph.D. studies. These circumstances directly affect the anticipated career development of graduates of each type of university.
Another frequent point of divergence between the four types of university is access to highly qualified academic staff, availability of state-of-the-art. research tools, know-how, etc., which may affect teaching practices and the resultant occupational attitudes of future physiotherapists.
